Wine Facts: Sugars in the Wine

Sipping on wine, feeling just fine, but watch out for those sugars, they'll sneak up and blind ya!

Red, white, or rosé, don't you dare say "no way!" But be sure to check the label, 'cause too much sugar ain't stable.

So grab a glass, let's make a toast, to find the sweet spot that we love the most!

What do you know about sugars in wine? In short?

* 🍷 Wines with least amount of sugar?

= Dry wines, as they are fully fermented and practically all sugars have been converted to alcohol.

= Red wines have a lower amount of sugar, the average glass runs around 1.1 to 2.0 grams per glass.

= And if you like champagne or sparkling wines, look for labels that say "Extra Brut" or "Brut”, usually the sugar content is  less than 1-2 grams per liter.

* 🍷 Wines with most sugar?

= Sweet wines

= Fortified wines such as Ports, Chenin Blancs, etc, have a higher concentration in sugars because the grapes used in the winemaking process are left on the vine to ripen which results in concentrated sweetness in the grapes.

Ps, the sweeter the wine, the higher the level of sulfites, as this will be required to keep the wine fresh during storage. That is probably the reason the sweet champagne you drank at the last party gave you such a bad hangover. Just FYI (don’t always blame the wine) .

Time to ski my wine off 🙈💪!

What do we have here ?

👀 yellow pale

👃 lemon , ripe apple, butter , oaky taste , vanilla

👅 medium bodied , medium plus acidity , taste of minerals, citrus, chalk, honey , butter, long finish
