I’ve been up to my elbows in Chardonnay lately...., trying, learning and drinking 🤗.
I’m most certainly most into cool climate Chardonnays, a micro-climate that is known for its cool, windy and foggy days.
What does that mean for the Chardy? Well, in general it means crisper acidity and flavors of fresh stone & citric fruit with the potential for some serious elegance. That said, we know this is a winemaker’s grape and that what happens (or doesn’t happen) in the cellar plays a big role in the ultimate pour.
As for the days we are in Berlin, today a Chardonnay from #Germany.
👀Gold yellow
👃 ripe yellow fruit on the nose, crisp pear and apple, apricot, apricot, oaky, vanilla
👅 It is for sure not a big butter bomb, but an elegant Chardonnay, with rounded structure. Some complexity is being tasted. Medium + acidity. Apricot, oak, honey, pear, banana peel, caramel, .. You taste a bit of the saltiness from the limestone, a round acidity and a powerful finish. Drink now, but have the potential to age another 10 years.
Wine: #lisabunn #chardonnay
Lisa and Bastian, founded the Lisa Bunn Winery in the heart of #Rheinhessen in 2013 with the focus on the love for nature and wine. Wines are created that are characterized by the multifaceted terroirs of our region
And another bonus about this pretty Chardonnay is that it retails right around EUR25. Not bad at all!
I wonder how all the Chardonnay vines I’ve been tangled up with (sometimes literally) will present and how the makers will choose to express them? Such a remarkable grape! Don’t you think?
Cheers my friends!
Greetings from Berlin!
